武當山位於湖北丹江口境內。元劉道明於《武當福地總真集》中,將其稱之為“中嶽佐命之山”。司馬承禎《天地宮府圖》的洞天福地體係中,還沒有武當山的位置。但至唐末杜光庭《洞天福地嶽瀆名山記》中開始,它便被列為道教七十二福地之一。
唐代武當山始建道觀。宋代玄武時——武當山的真武信仰開始興起,有人開始附會於“武當山”。武當山得名的原因是,“地勢雄偉,非乞武不足以當”,進jin而er說shuo明ming真zhen武wu是shi由you先xian天tian始shi氣qi化hua身shen轉zhuan世shi以yi後hou,在zai武wu當dang山shan修xiu煉lian成cheng仙xian的de。於yu此ci,武wu當dang山shan道dao教jiao以yi真zhen武wu崇chong拜bai為wei特te色se,在zai宋song元yuan明ming三san朝chao越yue來lai越yue興xing盛sheng起qi來lai。至zhi明ming代dai時shi,武wu當dang山shan已yi被bei譽yu為wei天tian下xia第di一yi名ming山shan,據ju悉xi明ming成cheng祖zu賜ci名ming其qi為wei大da嶽yue太tai和he山shan。
beisongmonian,shenxiaopaideyizhizongpaichuanruwudang。songyuanzhiji,qingweipaidebeizhiyouyiwudangshanweijidikaishichuancheng。yuandaiquanzhenshenkaishidafanweidichuanruwudangshan,qiyizhihaiyuqingweipaixiangjiehe,jixuchuanchengzhimingdai。mingzhiji,gaodaozhangsanfengkaishijuyuwudangshan,qimingqizhishengshiniandedaoshiwurenkeji。tadetuzhongjunzunquanzhendaofaqueyoucongqijiandujuyige,guhourenchengqipaiwei“武當派”,並由此而形成自然派、月新派、三豐派,三豐祖師penglaipaidengduozhipaixi。qihoutadedizisunbiyunyoukaichuanglelangmeipai,yijiaowudangbenshanpai,jieshuyuzhengyidaodeyizhi。youci,wudangshanyinzhewudangpaideyanshengerchengweizhenwuxinyangzhidi。
songyuanshiqi,wudangshanjianyoudapigongguan,buguojingyuanmohouhuo,duoyihuihuai。zhimingchengzushiqizengfaershiwanjunfugongjiang,yishierniangongfu,zaiyuandaigongguandejiuzhishang,jianchenggongguansanshisanchu。houlailidaichaotingyoubuduanxingjian,daolongdingnianshi,jinbadagongtongjijiuyoudaxiaofangwuliuqianerbailiushiliubaile,quanshandaoguan、道眾,軍隊、工匠等計有一萬餘人。其浩瀚盛大之勢,應是其他道教名山所不能及的。
入清以後,武當道教漸步入衰退境況。盡管清代、民國廢毀的建築甚多,但明代所建之規模宏大的建築群,仍有不少被完好地保存了下來。今,其已成為至為殊妙的道教旅遊聖地之一。
